The Aam Aadmi Party declared on Thursday that its members will not attend President Droupadi Murmu’s speech to the joint session of Parliament.
Following the Rouse Avenue Court’s decision to place Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal under three days of CBI remand in the Delhi Excise Policy case, the Aam Aadmi Party declared that its members would not attend President Droupadi Murmu’s speech to the joint sitting of Parliament on Thursday.
Following the establishment of the third National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, this will be the first speech given by the president.
A resolution of thanks will be made in both Houses of Parliament after the President’s speech, and the members will debate it.
Leader of the AAP Sandeep Pathak stated that the President and the Constitution are paramount and that it is critical to speak out when dictatorship is carried out in the guise of justice.
“Today, we will boycott the President’s speech and demonstrate in the Rajya Sabha against the detention of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. We must speak up when dictatorship is carried out in the name of justice because the President and the Constitution are supreme,” he stated.
“We did not have a discussion with the remaining parties of the INDIA alliance regarding this, but our party will boycott the President’s address,” Pathak responded when asked if other INDIA bloc parties will also demonstrate in the Rajya Sabha.
